Make no mistake, Ron Gilbert and developer Terrible Toybox know exactly what they’re doing when it comes to pushing your nostalgia buttons and they’re very, very good at it.Īs much as Return to Monkey Island looks to the past so too does it cast an eye to the future in a great many ways. Once into the game proper, Return to Monkey Island wastes no time in dropping players back into the familiar setting of Mêlée Island as Guybrush Threepwood himself and indeed Return to Monkey Island deftly calls back to the original Monkey Island games, with a zoomed out shot of the island at night being slowly zoomed in as the iconic Monkey Island theme begins to swell.
